YOUTUBE PICK OF THE WEEK!

Image

If you have been following by blog, you will know this post is where I get to share a YouTube video that is either (a) just absolutely class (b) relatively unheard of in mainstream media or (c) inspirational or original and this week I’d like to feature up and coming American Pop/Rock singer Ron Pope who has been gaining online notoriety via YouTube.

I admire Ron Pope’s sentimental lyrics and rock-solid melodies. In addition, I find it inspiring that he has independently recorded 10 albums, which is by no means, a small feat in today’s music industry!

In particular, I found that “One Grain of Sand” from his 2012 album “Atlanta” is definitely one of his stand-out songs. hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did –

Inspirational Singer – The One and Only Bruce Springsteen!

Image

Hi there folks,

I recently got hold of a ticket to see Bruce Springsteen in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny this summer so it seemed fitting that I devote my blog post this week by talking about what an inspiration he is for me personally!

For those of you who don’t know, albeit virtually impossible, Springsteen is an American singer/songwriter who tour s with the E Street Band. Springsteen is a widely popular singer and is known for his unique take on heartland (70s) rock and beautiful poetic lyrics which have led the singer to sell over 120 million albums worldwide!

Springsteen has recorded 17 albums to date and has been the recipient of a myriad of awards including an astonishing 20 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globes and an Academy Award for his work.

While rock and roll seem to predominantly influence Springsteen’s style of music, he also draws musical influences from folk, blues and country.

Personally, I find his music very inspiring, words cannot begin to exemplify my love of this man’s music – from his exceptional guitar playing, amazing vocals to his powerful, emotive lyrics – Bruce Springsteen is really my all-time idol.

Here’s a link to one of my favourite Springsteen songs, which is a bonus track taken from his album “Magic” (2007).

Quick Guide to Playing Guitar

I love playing guitar, but learning it, although awarding and enjoyable, can be quite a tedious process – it takes dedication and practice, practice, practice!

I was fortunate enough to have my father help teach me how to play, and lucky that he was a quite patient with me! However, from time-to-time, I still go online to get help when I’m having a spot of bother perfecting chords to a new tune! So here’s two sites I highly reccommend for anyone who either wants to learn how to play guitar or who just want to hone in their technique –

And remember, to practice, practice and you guessed it – practice!

If you have been following by blog, you will know this post is where I get to share a YouTube video that is either (a) just absolutely class (b) relatively unheard of in mainstream media or (c) inspirational or original – and this week is no exception as I want to share with you an incredibly talented folk rock band called the Wishing Well!

The Wishing Well is a seven-piece folk rock band originally hailing from Melbourne, Australia. Since the band formed in 2008, they have played over 1,400 international shows on various tours! They currently have two independent albums, “Life on the Border” (2008), and “Fire in the Valley” (2010). Their third album, “Black Dragon River” is set for release later this year. I bought their first album, “Life on the Border” a few years back and still listen to it, usually a steady iPod favourite on a long evening journeys….

This is a band that will appeal to anyone with a true appreciation and love for emotive lyrics and majestic melodies! Give a listen to the “Dying with you baby” and see what you make for yourself… Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
